The School Day Print

The playground gate is opened at 8.45 am by Mrs Lloyd.  Parents of children in Acorns are welcome to go through to the classroom with their children.  All other children are encouraged to go through by themselves.  Mrs Lloyd is always on hand to hear the children's news, or if parents need a quick chat, or to take an urgent message for the class teacher.

The children go straight through to their classrooms via the cloakrooms.  Early Morning Tasks are available in each classroom, giving the children an opportunity to settle to an activity straight away, getting their brains busy for the day's learning.  The class teacher also has the opportunity to chat to each child as they arrive, and to catch up with any needs they might have.

At 8.55 am the Playground Gate is locked, and Registers are taken in the classrooms.  This is also the time when the children make their lunch choices.

By 9.00 am each class is ready to begin their first lesson.

During the morning there will be a short Collective Worship in the hall.  This is often at 10.20 am, but sometimes at 9.00 am if we have a visitor to lead the assembly.  You can find out more information about Collective Worship here.

At 10.40 am, the children have their morning break.  Children in Years 1 to 6 play together on the main playground.  The children in Acorns play in their outdoor area.

Playtime finishes at 11.00 am, and the children go to their classrooms for their second lesson.

The morning session finishes at 12.00 for the children in Key Stage 1, and at 12.15 pm for the children in Key Stage 2.

Lunchtime lasts for an hour, during which the children have time in the lunch hall and time on the playground.  If it is raining, they enjoy 'wet play' in the classrooms, using special playtime board games and construction activities which we keep for these times.

The children in Key Stage 1 return to their classrooms at 1.00 pm, while the children in Key Stage 2 finish their lunch break at 1.15 pm.

During the afternoon, the children in Key Stage 1 have a 20 minute break, usually at 2.10 pm.  On the whole, the children in Key Stage 2 do not have an afternoon break, although they may go outside for a short 'brain-break' with their teacher at a convenient time if they need it. Class teachers in Key Stage 2 usually split the afternoon into two sessions, although there is flexibility about where in the afternoon that split happens.

The school day ends at 3.30 pm.  Children who are going on to Afterschool Club, or to any of our activity clubs, are taken through to the adult leading the club. The class teacher leads the rest of the class to the playground where they wait with their teacher until they are collected.   Any children who are not collected are then taken through to the school office.
