Year 5
Welcome to Year 5 at Andrews’ Endowed. Year 5 is all about taking responsibility for our learning and making the most of every opportunity. Our teacher is Mrs Rose. Our teaching assistant is Mrs Mateus. We hope the following information is useful for you as your child continues their journey through Year 5.
In Year 5, we are:
Curious
We love discovering new things and asking questions to understand the world around us. Curiosity drives our learning journey, as we dig deeper into subjects and explore ideas with wonder and excitement.
Articulate
We speak with confidence and clarity.
Whether sharing ideas in class discussions or presenting projects, we work on expressing our thoughts and listening to others. Being articulate helps us communicate our ideas clearly and makes sure everyone’s voice is heard.
Responsible
We take ownership of our actions.
In Year 5, we understand the importance of being responsible, whether it’s completing work on time or caring for our school and community. We know that our actions affect others, and we’re mindful of how we contribute positively.
Thoughtful
We care about those around us.
Thoughtfulness is at the heart of Year 5. We practice kindness, respect, and empathy, making sure everyone feels included and valued. Being thoughtful means considering how others feel and finding ways to make a difference in small, meaningful ways

What do our pupils think?
My friends and I have been at Andrew’s Endowed for nearly 7 years now and it has never been dull from Maths to Science – every lesson is fun. The teachers are jolly, kind and always try to be funny, especially if someone cracks a joke. My two favourite lessons are D.T and Art because I am allowed to be so creative!
Year 6 Pupil
During the 2 nd half term as Year 6, we get to be buddies for the children in our Reception class which we call Acorns. We help them to read, do maths and even help them in how to be good friends.
Year 6 Pupil
I did not start Andrews’ Endowed from the first year of reception, but our teachers here at Andrews’ have welcomed everybody new or not new. We always have a lot of one to one chats with teachers for good reasons if we need someone to talk to.

Homework in Year 5
Homework in year 5 is set on a Tuesday and is due in the following Monday. Details of the tasks will be posted on Google Classroom – and the work can be photographed / attached and submitted on this platform too. If you require paper copies, or to hand paper copies in, this can be arranged. Homework will be marked on Google Classroom on Monday evening.
Although in Year 5 homework is your child’s responsibility (and we encourage them to begin completing parts of it independently) your child will still need support with their homework – it really does make a difference to their progress!
Weekly Homework expectations in Year 5:
A spelling sheet is sent home each week with your child. Please complete this during the week, following the instruction on the sheet. Spellings are tested in school on Tuesdays.
