About the Role:

This is a part-time position of 4 hours per week, consisting of 3 hours working directly with our children and 1 hour dedicated to setup and preparation. As our Forest School Leader, you’ll play a vital role in developing children’s confidence, resilience, and understanding of the natural world. Our pupils already have a strong foundation of Forest School skills, providing a wonderful base for you to build upon.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a proactive, calm, and highly capable Learning Support Assistant to become an essential part of our supportive EYFS team. This is a Full-time term-time role (Salary Scale B pro-rata, depending on qualifications and experience).

You will be crucial in facilitating early learning and fostering wellbeing by:

  • Supporting Early Development: Providing targeted, impactful support to individuals or small groups, helping them navigate the Prime and Specific areas of learning through purposeful play.
  • Enhancing Provision: Collaborating closely with the EYFS lead to develop academic and social skills, as well as preparing and adapting high-quality resources for continuous provision to meet diverse needs.
  • Championing Neurodiversity: Implementing personalised strategies and adaptations (such as sensory breaks or visual timetables) that celebrate individual strengths while removing barriers to participation for our youngest learners.
  • Holistic Wellbeing: Supporting pupils’ social and emotional development both within the nurturing classroom environment and during active outdoor exploration.
  • Empowering Independence: Encouraging children to engage in independent exploration, helping them decode simple instructions and articulate their discoveries.
  • Observational Assessment: Maintaining accurate records of pupils’ daily progress and developmental milestones, utilising excellent communication skills to liaise with staff and parents.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a candidate with a genuine passion for inclusive education and a deep understanding of early childhood development.

Essential Skills & Qualities:

  • Positive and Calm Approach: You naturally use a range of effective, age-appropriate behaviour management strategies.
  • EYFS Curriculum Knowledge: A strong understanding and experience of the EYFS Statutory Framework and Development Matters is required.
  • A Passion for Neurodiversity: You must demonstrate a proactive desire for researching and employing effective strategies for working with neurodivergent children in their early years.
  • Empathy and Initiative: You understand the critical importance of a child’s social and emotional development and are flexible enough to support both child-initiated and teacher-led learning.
  • Team Player: You can build and develop positive relationships with both children and staff.
  • Qualifications: Relevant qualifications, preferably to at least NVQ2 or equivalent.
  • Growth Mindset: You must be enthusiastic, creative, and willing to undertake further training to gain new skills.
